Annette Macdonald

Annette comes from Queensland, completing her nursing registration at the Mt Isa Base Hospital. She has experience working for private and public health, in nursing management, nursing education, complex patient assessment, accreditation processes, clinical trials and as a credentialled diabetes educator. She has a conjoint associate lecturer appointment at Western Sydney University. Annette had a major role in establishing the Nepean Blue Mountains Family Metabolic Health Program in 2016. She then transferred to Blacktown Hospital to assist the growth and development of the Metabolic & Weight Loss Program. Her focus is on obesity research and she was recently awarded the WSLHD Kickstarter research grant to support her research projects. Her research interests include studying the metabolic, functional, and psychological outcomes of patients with obesity and diabetes. Annette has co-authored of an article “The credentialled diabetes educator in the tertiary hospital weight loss program- the Blacktown Hospital Experience” (Australian Diabetes Educator, Volume 22, September 2019). She has also developed educational resources for staff members caring for patients following Metabolic Surgery. Currently she is developing a unique program of education for patients with diabetes and obesity.
